Homegrown Qatari artist Amal Ahmed Mohammed Al Barghouthi opened her first solo exhibition at the Al Hosh Al Qatari Lil Funoon (Qatari House for Arts) at Souq Waqif on Saturday. Al Barghouthi adorns the walls of the prominent gallery with a dozen of her works, mostly depicting the Qatari way of life. Ordinary human activities are given unusual traits by Al Barghouthi’s extraordinary stroke of brush using shapes and hues that mirror the unique Qatari culture. Her subtle use of colours echoes the many facets of the vibrancy of life in Qatar’s traditional souqs in the midst of the unstoppable development in infrastructure and economy the country is witnessing. Born in Doha, Amal Al Barghouthi has already exhibited her paintings here as well as abroad. Apart from completing a degree in Marketing and Public Relations, she has also taken courses in water and oil painting. . Abdulbasit A AlShaibei, Chief Executive Officer of International Islamic Bank (IIB), the sponsor of the event, led the opening of the exhibition. He said IIB is proud to support Al Barghouthi. “We have always supported initiatives that helped the Qatari society. International Islamic is committed to supporting social, arts and cultural programmes in Qatar. Our support of Amal’s exhibition is in line with this,” said Al-Shaibei.
