Talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban opened in Qatar today. The talks are aimed at ending 19 years of war in Afghanistan.
As part of the efforts to achieve sustainable peace in Afghanistan, Doha witnessed the launch of the Afghanistan Peace Negotiations with representatives from the Afghan government, the Taliban and Afghan civil society.
The Government Communications Office (GCO) Tweeted that in his opening remarks during the Afghanistan peace negotiations, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani the Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar will spare no effort in cooperating with the international community to achieve the desired goals of the negotiations and lasting peace in Afghanistan. He also said that the Afghan talks are an important step towards sustainable peace and they must be based on neither winners nor losers.
