A delegation of senior officials from Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is representing the country at the 38th meeting of the UN World Tourism Authority Commission for the Middle East, and the 20th session of the UNWTO General Assembly, which will be held from August 24-29 in Livingstone and Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe, respectively. Attended by ministers, policymakers and tourism industry leaders, the General Assembly is the meeting point for the UNWTO’s 156 member states. The meeting will address the state of the global tourism sector and mainstreaming tourism in the global agenda. Qatar’s participation in this important international tourism meeting demonstrates the strong positioning of the country in this growing sector of the economy. It is an opportunity to share, learn and discuss developments in the global tourism sector with peers from around the world. QTA representatives will speak about the strides being made by Qatar and the Authority to further develop the tourism sector in the country. QTA recently entered a framework agreement with UNWTO which consists of implementing action plans: from preparing and reviewing tourism policies and legislation in line with the international best practice, to achieving all the set requirements for sustainable touristic projects and facilities in Qatar. Qatar has been a member of UNWTO, a specialised agency of the United Nations, since 2002. Qatar Tourism Authority manages the country’s burgeoning tourism industry and develop it through establishing high profile international and local exhibitions as successful annual calendar events in Qatar. QTA’s mission is to promote Qatar as a world-class tourism destination for business, leisure, culture, education and sport. Its role is to showcase the country’s unique cultural heritage and highlight its tourist attractions. Source:Qatar Chronicle
