Qatar to celebrate World Teachers' Day on Thursday

Under the patronage of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatar will celebrate World Teachers' Day on Thursday.

Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Fawzia Abdulaziz Al Khater, confirmed in a press conference today that Qatar's celebration of World Teachers' Day is a celebration of the great teaching profession, in recognition of the teacher role in raising and educating generations.

Al Khater noted that the patronage of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani for this celebration confirms the interest and patronage of the state to education, and one of its most important component which is the teacher. She stressed that this care also reflects Qatar's loyalty to teachers and its understanding of the value of their efforts and hard work.

Al Khater expressed her thanks to every teacher in public and private schools in the country, and appreciated their unlimited efforts in taking the responsibility of building Qatar through educating its generations, pointing out that the role of teacher is not limited in the classroom, but it extends to all aspects of a student's psychological and social life.

Al Khater also stressed the great attention given by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to the teacher, to ensure the performance of his duties and responsibilities in order to achieve the main result in its education strategy 2017-2022, aiming at a world-class education system that provides equitable access to high-quality education and training, and to ensure that all learners gain the skills and competencies necessary to achieve their potential in line with their aspirations and abilities to contribute to society.

Al Khater pointed out that for this purpose, the Ministry's strategy includes attracting, hiring, raising the efficiency of teachers in public schools, stressing that the main component of any educational system is the teacher.

She added that while the Ministry attracts qualified teachers from abroad, it is also working to attract Qatari youth of both sexes to join this profession, noting in this context, for example, the program "Tomouh", which is implemented in cooperation with the College of Education at the Qatar University, as well as the cooperation with the Ministry Development, Labor and Social Affairs in attracting graduates of other non-educational colleges at Qatar University to work as teachers after undergoing a qualification program such as graduates of the faculties of Arts, Science, Administration, Economics, Sharia and Islamic Studies, in addition to cooperation with the organization "Teach for Qatar" through the program "Teach for Qatar", which supports the ministry each year, with the best graduates.

Al Khater called on teachers to continue their constructive efforts and follow-up what is new in the development of their profession, and to take all steps to assess the performance of the students and improve their level and develop their scientific research skills to achieve the mission sought by the Ministry, for the benefit of Qatar and its prosperity.

For his part, Director of Teachers Affairs Ahmed Jassimani, praised Qatar's celebration of this occasion, stressing that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education is making great efforts to provide schools with qualified educational cadres and that they are cooperating with many state institutions to achieve this purpose.

He pointed out that at least 820 teachers were appointed during the new academic year 2019-2020, as well as the cooperation with several local bodies to attract teachers to this profession.

For his part, Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Hassan Al Mohammadi, said that during the celebration in Qatar National Convention Center, one hundred veteran teachers in Qatar will be honored. Al Mohammadi explained that the celebration program includes displaying a documentary film about the efforts of the teacher, produced in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
