H.E. Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari said Wednesday that the state's strategic reserve of food commodities can last for more than a year, adding that the state's import policies continue at the same pace without any change, calling on suppliers, outlets and local manufacturers to play their natural role in providing goods in the demanded quantities by consumers.

This came during a visit made by H.E. the Minister to a number of supermarkets to get a close look at the strategic stock of food products and commodities and to gain insight into the demand patterns of citizens and residents.

His Excellency said that all products that consumers need are readily available, as the state's imports are continuing without disruption. His Excellency stressed the role retailers can play in ensuring the stability of the market by providing the needs of the consumers and constantly restocking shelves. His Excellency stressed that the ministry is addressing any shortcomings as it is constantly monitoring the market to ensure the availability of food and consumer products in all outlets. His Excellency added that there is strong coordination with suppliers to ensure imports continue normally, noting that prices have been stable.

H.E. the Minister stressed that any outlet that tries to take advantage of the crisis will face closure and a fine in accordance with consumer protection law no.8 of 2008.

His Excellency listened to a detailed explanation of the supply of food and consumer products.
