Qatar-Spain talks focus on cementing relations

Official talks between Qatar, under the chairmanship of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and Spain, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, were held yesterday afternoon at the Spanish cabinet premises in Madrid. During the meeting, they discussed ways to consolidate areas of co-operation between the two countries, and reviewed a number of issues of common concern. The session was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani and HE Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Emiri Diwan Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, and members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir. On the Spanish side, the talks were attended by a number of ministers and Spanish ambassador to Qatar. At the end of the talks, HH the Emir and the Spanish Prime Minister witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding. The two sides signed a co-operation agreement in security affairs and an agreement on air transportation and a memorandum of understanding in the field of energy security and an agreement for the establishment of the Qatar-Spanish Business Council between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Spain Chamber of Commerce, in addition to a memorandum of understanding in sports between the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Spanish Olympic Committee, and a memorandum of understanding between Hassad Company and Spanish Prima Fleur Company.
