THE Indonesian community in Qatar organised cultural programmes and competitions for children to mark the Indonesian Muslimah (Women’s) Day in Doha yesterday. A spokesperson for the community said the day is inspired by Raden Ajeng Kartini, a pioneer in the area of Indonesian women’s rights and a national heroine. Mufida Rozi Munir, wife of the Indonesian ambassador, was the keynote speaker. Women presented many cultural programmes on the occasion. Competitions for children and women were also held. “By organising the event, we wanted to raise awareness among Indonesian women about the struggle of R A Kartini. It also was aimed at stressing the important roles played by women in society.”
