Qatar’s bid to qualify for the 2012 Olympics has taken a hit after it was forced by FIFA to forfeit a match against Oman because it fielded an ineligible player. The Asian Football Confederation said on its website on Wednesday that Oman has been awarded a 3-0 victory in the third round qualifying match played on November 27. The game originally ended in a 1-1 draw. The 2022 World Cup host Qatar was found guilty of fielding midfielder Abdelaziz Hatim, who was booked against India before picking up another yellow card against South Korea which should have made him ineligible for the Oman match. As a result, Oman now sits second in Group A while Qatar is four points back in third with only 2 points. 7Days
