Qatar records 645 building permits issued in May 2022

The Planning and Statistics Authority published on 9 June 2022, the eighty-ninth issue of the Monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion certificates issued by all municipalities of the State.

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator of the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

It is worth mentioning that the release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides.

In a quick review of the data on building permits issued during the month of May 2022, according to their geographical distribution, the municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued was 167 permits or 26% of the total issued permits. This was followed by the municipality of Doha with 166 permits. The Al Wakrah municipality comes in thirds with 136 permits or 21%, then the municipality of Al Da'ayen with 94 permits or 15%. The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Salal with 47 permits (7%), Al Khor with 15 permits (2%), and finally Al Shammal and Al Sheehaniya with 10 permits (2%) each.

In terms of the type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitute 52% (334 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of May 2022, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 45% (291 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3% (20 permits).

By analyzing new residential building permits data, QNA reports that villas top the list, accounting for 77% (198 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 14% (36 permits) and apartments buildings by 8% (21 permits).

On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be at the forefront of non-residential building permits with 79% (62 permits), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops/factories with 10% (8 permits), then governmental buildings with 8% (6 permits).

Comparing the number of permits issued in May 2022 with those issued in the previous month reports that the following municipalities had a decrease in issued permits compared to April 2022: Al Khor (from 38%), Al Sheehaniya (from 29%), Al Da'ayen (from 27%), Al Shammal (from 17%), Al Wakrah (from 9%). On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of Umm Salal (38%), Al Doha (9%), and Al Rayyan (2%).
