Qatar ready for Inaugural Arab Women Sports Tournament

DOHA, 29 January 2012 – An official women sport delegation under the supervision of Qatar’s Women Sport committee (QWSC) will head to UAE on Tuesday to participate in the inaugural Arab Women Sports Tournament will take place from 2 – 12 February 2012 at the Sharjah Ladies Club in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The prestigious tournament is organised under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and the Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club. According to organisers, the event will bring together women sport teams from 22 Arab nations to compete in several sports including basketball, volleyball, table tennis, shooting and several athletics disciplines. Around 27 Qatari women athletes beside 20 members from administrative, technical and medical teams of QWSC will represent the country in five sports, basketball, volleyball, athletics, shooting and table tennis. The tournament is part of many initiatives taken by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and the Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club to help drive the role of women in sports, preparing them for bigger international championships including the Olympics QOC
