Halul Island, Qatar – Qatar Petroleum’s Offshore Operations today marked this year’s celebration of the “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” by organizing various activities in Halul Island as well as at Al-Ghazal Club in Doha. The celebration in Halul commenced with a keynote speech by Mr. Mubarak A. Al-Hajri, Operations Manager-Offshore Fields, and this was followed by a video message from His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP. The event was attended not only by QP staff but also by contractors working at QP’s offshore locations and by the employees of QP’s joint venture partners, namely Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. (OPQL), Total Exploration & Production Qatar (TEPQ) and Qatar Petroleum Development Company (QPD). The “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” is observed every year on April 28 and the global event has been organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) since 2003. The main theme of the event this year is “The Prevention of Occupational Diseases.” In line with the event, QP’s Offshore Operations used the ILO poster for this year’s “World Day for Safety and Health at Work,” which called attention to the 2 million workers killed every year worldwide due to occupational diseases. In addition to the poster, the event’s program in Halul included presentations from QP’s Offshore Operations, TEPQ and Amwaj Catering Company. The presentations focused on the programs and initiatives implemented by QP to prevent occupational diseases, the need to be committed to everyone’s safety, as well as on food safety. A question-and-answer session was also held, and recognition awards were then distributed to personnel who have distinguished themselves for their commitment to safety. This was followed by a rescue exercise conducted by Offshore Operations’ Safety and Fire Team along with the QP Medical Team in Halul. QP’s Offshore Operations celebrated the “World Day for Health and Safety at Work” as part of its ongoing efforts to embed a safety and health culture into the mindset of everyone working at offshore locations. QP considers it a key event for achieving a sustainable work environment that is free of occupational risks, thus resulting in a positive impact on employees’ productivity and the overall efficiency of its operations. The day provided QP with an opportunity to highlight its commitment to a safe and healthy workplace and its comprehensive efforts to ensure this for the benefit of its employees, contractors and joint venture partners. At the end of the program, Mr. Al-Hajri expressed his gratitude and appreciation to H.E. Dr. Al-Sada, for his strong support and valued participation in this important event. He also thanked Mr. Said Mubarak A-Mohannadi, QP Director of Operations, for his close follow-up and guidance, as well as all Offshore Operations’ management and staff, contractors and joint venture partners for their role in the success of the event.
