Qatar, Oman sign labour pact
Qatar and Oman have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labour and development of human resources.
The Minister of Labour H E Dr Sultan bin Hassan Al Dhabet Al Dossary signed on behalf of Qatar at a ceremony held in Muscat on Saturday. Al Dossary and his Omani counterpart, Dr Jumah bin Ali bin Jumah, Minister of Manpower, signed the MoU covering labour issues. In the domain of labour, the two sides agreed to exchange expertise, information and conduct studies in the fields of work inspections, health, safety, labour relations, technical education and vocational training.
The signing was attended by the Abdullah Mubarak Al Sulaiti, Qatar's Charge d'Affaires in Muscat. Later, the two sides held official talks in which they confirmed the need to further boost relations between the two countries and underlined the importance of exchanging expertise and official visits.
Al Dossary stated a joint follow-up committee will be formed to work out an annual programme for future cooperation. The number of Omanis in Qatar, currently estimated at 2,500, is expected to rise after the new deal, the Minister said.
