In an official video released by the Government Communications Office (GCO) has said that The State of Qatar is committed to tackling humanitarian issues, offering housing and healthcare to evacuees from Afghanistan residing in the country temporarily.

GCO has also said that this has facilitated the safe passage of Afghan civilians, journalists, diplomats, and international officials.

As per a report by Al Jazeera, the Afghan refugees have been given temporary accommodation in a brand new compound which is one of several built as accommodation for Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As per Al Jazeera, H.E. Lolwah Rashid Mohammed Al-Khater, Assistant Foreign Minister & Spokesperson of MoFA, has overseen the plan from the “operation room” in the compound. “This is a process handled from A to Z; we make sure it is as safe as possible,” H.E. told Al Jazeera. “Currently this compound is almost at capacity; it hosts around 500-plus people. We are preparing another compound as a contingency plan, and it’s expected to house even more.”
