Qatari officials have offered David Beckham a lucrative deal to join the country's domestic league, according to a report in the Sun.
Beckham, 37, is one of the most in-demand footballers on the planet, having recently left LA Galaxy after five successful years in Major League Soccer.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has been linked with myriad clubs, including a number of sides in the A-League and the Premier League, as well as Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain.
The latest interest in Beckham is reported to come from the Middle East, with a move to the Qatar Stars League claimed to be on the table, along with an opportunity to play a major PR role in the 2022 World Cup, which is being hosted by the Gulf state.
he Sun quotes a source in Qatar as saying: "When it comes to money offers, Qatar is the biggest by far. Senior figures in the Qatari League feel Beckham has the total package and they need to up the interest in the game there around the world.
"They have seen what Beckham did in the US league and feel that type of transformation could be priceless. David is one of the few - possibly the only - soccer player who has the tools to revive the image of the game here."
Qatar's most successful club Al-Sadd - winners of the 2011 AFC Champions League - would likely be the most appealing option to Beckham, with his ex-Madrid team-mate Raul currently the star attraction there.
Other notable foreign players plying their trade in Qatar include former Lazio and Parma midfielder Mark Bresciano, Brazilian strikers Afonso Alves and Nilmar, and Senegal star Mamadou Niang.
