Qatar Music Academy (QMA), an initiative of the Qatar Foundation, is expected to open in September 2010, according to a report.
Talking to a local English daily on Thursday, dean of the Academy Issam Al Mallah said that the academy was earlier scheduled to open in September this year, The Peninsula reported on Saturday.
“The delay of one year has been caused due to the absence of a proper building where the academy could be housed,” he added. However, the hurdles in the way of acquisition of the building have been removed and the academy was expected to start functioning next year.
The building has been finalised at the Cultural Village and it is being modified to suit our purpose, he added.
According to The Peninsula, Mallah said that preparations are in the full swing and he is expecting the Academy to be fully functional by September next year.
Orders have been placed for furniture and instruments, the dean of the academy added.
Registrations for different courses and admissions are expected to take place in a few months, Al Mallah said.
He lamented that very few young people are attracted to music today because of the poor music scene and lack of career opportunities in this field, The Peninsula added.
