Members of the Doha community gathered on 15th April at the Fire Station Artist in Residency to attend a lecture by Silvia Naef, Professor at the Arabic Studies Section of the University of Geneva. In the lecture, Naef explored modern art’s appearance in the Arab world in the 20th century and how the local art scene and markets in the Middle East have gained worldwide influence. In addition, Naef hosted a successful two-day course, focusing on the same themes for teachers and the public.
These events formed part of the Picasso-Giacometti exhibition’s educational programme, organised by Qatar Museums under its spirit of instigating Qatar’s future generation of arts, heritage and museum professionals and helping Qatar find its own distinctive voice in the contemporary global cultural debates.
Picasso-Giacometti will run until 21st May at the Fire Station’s Garage Gallery.
