Qatar Museums (QM) is inviting university students and alumni to participate in the first edition of its Public Art Student Competition. To promote the competition, QM hosted an orientation day on Tuesday 25 February at Fire Station Cinema.

The competition is aimed towards students currently enrolled at a Qatari university and alumni who have graduated in the last two years. The competition provides an opportunity for students to propose their ideas for a public art piece to be displayed in Qatar. The piece could span various mediums, from installations to interventions and performances. The winners will gain financial support to realize their proposal and exposure in the art industry

Abdulrahman Al Ishaq, Head of Public Art at QM, said: "At Qatar Museums, we are proud to provide platforms of self-expression for our country's rising artists. This competition is not only an incredible opportunity for students and recent graduates to contribute to enriching the nation's arts and culture scene, but it also prepares the next generation of artists with firsthand experience into the industry."

Aalia Khalid Al Khater, Public Art Researcher, added "By providing students with a toolbox, we believe they can fuel Qatar's growing art industry. Universities in Qatar are home to some of our greatest established artists and we want to give more students a head start to gaining the same kind of exposure."

The deadline to apply is Thursday 30 April 2020. For more information and guidelines, visit www.qm.org.qa/en/publicartstudentcompetition.
