MOPH warns consumers not to use certain baby milk powder products

The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has warned against infant formula milk products (Similac Human Milk Fortifier, EleCare, EleCare JR) for special uses produced by Abbott company of origin in the United States of America due to the possibility of contamination of some batches of these products with Salmonella and Chronobacter bacteria. The MOPH recommended consumers to avoid consuming it in order to preserve the health of their children.

The Ministry took the necessary precautionary measures, as soon as it received a notification from the international network of food safety officials "Infosan" regarding potentially contaminated baby milk powder products.

The precautionary measures included withdrawing and preventing the sale of these products and referring samples of them for laboratory analysis, and measures were taken to withdraw samples of similar imported products. The Ministry pointed out that the marketplaces distributing suspected contaminated products were limited due to the nature of these products.

The Ministry of Public Health states that no cases of illness related to these products have been recorded in the country.

Products details:

  • Producing Company (Abbott) - Brand (Similac Human Milk Fortifier, EleCare, EleCare JR)
  • The first two digits of the product codes range from (22 to 37).
  • Production date 01 November 2020, expiry date 01 April 2022 or later.

Abbott has issued a voluntary recall of these products.
