Qatar lifts all COVID-19 restrictions; masks still required in health facilities

Qatar lifst all covid restrictions

During the weekly cabinet meeting held on 8 March 2023, the cabinet decided to lift all COVID-19 restrictions in Qatar with the exception of obligating all citizens, residents and visitors to wear protective face masks when inside health facilities.

The cabinet, chaired by H.E. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani at the Amiri Diwan, also discussed the State of Qatar's hosting of LDC5, the broad and high-level participation in it, and the election of HH the Amir as its president, which reflects the international community's confidence in the State of Qatar and its constructive role at the regional and international levels.

Following the meeting, H.E. Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs issued the following statement:

At the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet hailed the speech of H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani before the opening session of the 5th U.N. Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), in Which His Highness had put the rich and developed countries before their moral responsibility to help the LDCs, and at the same time called on the least developed countries to follow rational economic development policies.

The Cabinet affirmed that His Highness' call for international human solidarity for a new world that is more secure, just and free embodied the pillars of the State of Qatar's foreign policy that call for dialogue, understanding, cooperation and focusing efforts on development in addition to achieving the aspirations of peoples and respecting their rights.

The Cabinet welcomed the opening of the 'United Nations House' in Doha, which supports the continuous cooperation between the State of Qatar and the United Nations, the development of a fruitful strategic partnership between them, and the promotion of joint efforts for a peaceful world.

Afterwards, H.E. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs sincerely thanked H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his confidence in appointing His Excellency as the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. His Excellency also thanked H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani for his valued efforts in serving the country.

His Excellency directed Their Excellencies the ministers to work to provide the highest level of performance and services in government agencies, especially in the health and education sectors; to work to promote economic growth; to facilitate the procedures for providing services to citizens and residents, and to work in a united team spirit.

The Cabinet also discussed the initiation of the Government Excellence Award. This award aims to enhance the quality of government performance, raise the quality of government services, and encourage government agencies to compete in pursuing quality, development, and excellence in performance.
