Legal action taken against car workshop for marking used oil as new

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) carried out an inspection campaign at outlets and shops in the Umm Salal area, with the aim of monitoring the extent of suppliers' compliance with Law No. 8 of 2008 regarding consumer protection.

The inspection campaign resulted in the seizure and issuance of a violation for a car maintenance service center after it refilled used oils in containers marked as new oils, which is in violation of Article No. (6) of Law No. 8 of 2008 regarding consumer protection, which states the following:

“It is prohibited to Selling, displaying, presenting, promoting or advertising any commodity that is fraudulent or corrupt, and the commodity is considered fraudulent or corrupt if it does not conform to the prescribed standard specifications, is unusable, or its validity period has expired."

This inspection campaign comes within the framework of the ministry's efforts to protect consumers' rights, monitor markets, and commercial activities in the country, control prices, and detect abuses and counterfeit and counterfeit goods that do not conform to standard specifications.

In this regard, the Ministry affirms that it will firmly confront anyone who fails to fulfill his obligations stipulated in Law No. 8 of 2008 regarding consumer protection and its executive regulations.

The Ministry is working to intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices and to refer violators of laws and ministerial decisions to the competent authorities to take the necessary measures.
