The State of Qatar informed the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations that Bahraini military naval boats penetrated its territorial waters on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, calling on the United Nations to take what is required under the Charter to maintain international peace and security and put an end to the tendentious Bahraini violations.
And in a message sent by Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, to His Excellency Ambassador Jerry Matjela, Permanent Representative of South Africa, President of the UN Security Council for this month, and to His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, The State of Qatar condemned these dangerous and illegal acts.
The letter affirmed that the illegal entry of the Bahraini military boats to the territorial waters of the State of Qatar without a permit constitutes a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar and a threat to its security.
She added that the occurrence of this sea breach and the air breach of Qatari airspace on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, during a close period, increases tension, saying that it "indicates the disregard of the Kingdom of Bahrain for its obligations under international law and the attempt to fabricate incidents that could destabilize, increase tension in the region and threaten peace. And regional and international security. " The letter referred to the ruling of the International Court of Justice issued regarding the border dispute between the State of Qatar and Bahrain in 2001, which must be adhered to and not violated.
She emphasized that the State of Qatar implements this ruling and exercises its sovereign rights in accordance with the rights contained in this provision regarding regional borders. In the letter, the State of Qatar drew the attention of the Security Council based on the provisions of Articles 34 and 35 of the United Nations Charter, reiterating its demand to take the necessary measures under the Charter to maintain international peace and security and put an end to the tendentious Bahraini violations.
In the conclusion of the message, the State of Qatar affirmed its keenness to promote good neighborly relations and to exercise a policy of restraint towards these irresponsible, provocative and repeated acts that they are exposed to, expressing its strong condemnation and rejection of any breach of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that it reserves its legitimate sovereign right to take all legal measures, necessary to defend its borders, airspace and national security in accordance with international laws and controls.
