About the Qatar Green Building Conference

The Qatar Green Building Conference is Qatar Green Building Council's inaugural annual conference planned to take place on 26-28 April, 20151 at Qatar National Convention Centre.

The conference will take a lead in the debate on sustainability challenges and highlight research and industry best practice. It will help the construction and sustainable development sector to deliver green building solutions to environmental challenges in Qatar, the region and the world.

The Qatar Green Building Conference aims to generate innovative and practical solutions to facilitate the delivery of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and will be themed around the most pressing sustainability needs of Qatar and the region.

Participating academics and industry practitioners will share their expertise in discussions around the following four key themes of considerable relevance to Qatar and the Gulf region:

• Passivhaus in the MENA Region: This theme will draw on QGBC and its partners' experience of constructing and operating the first Qatar Case Study Passivhaus Project, which will outline the lessons learnt and information on the on-going research programme.

• Retrofitting Doha: This theme will draw on the Texas A&M University and QGBC Qatar National Research Funded project that is investigating the energy performance of buildings and the innate skills and competences of the facilities management provision in Qatar. It will also investigate the importance of facilities management to the enhanced delivery of sustainability standards of Doha's existing building stock.

• Measuring the Carbon Footprint and Qatar's National Vision: This theme will draw on the development of C02 measurement and accounting, and the various mitigation methods applicable to the region, especially in the context of planning and delivering sporting and infrastructural construction and developments for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Qatar.

• Future Sustainable Cities: This theme will draw out and discuss these rich traditions to promote how they might be both maintained in a new era of rapid urbanization. These can be drawn upon to meet the challenges of environmental sustainability appropriate to the region and its culture.
But are they truly effective?

Academic researchers and industry practitioners, including property consultants, urban planners and landscape architects from Qatar and abroad will attend this conference, which will be addressed by leading national and international sustainability and green buildings experts. www.ggbconference.com
