Fatma Al Bishri has become the first ever Qatari to win a Fulbright scholarship under the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Programme for 2009-2010. Al Bishri is a teaching assistant at the Department of English Literature and Linguistics at the College of Arts and Sciences, Qatar University. The FLTA Programme provides young educators with the opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the USA while engaging in non-degree studies at accredited higher-education institutions in the US. Al Bishri will join the University of Wisconsin-Madison USA next fall. “I am so thrilled to be selected. The Programme will offer me the opportunity to both visit and learn from the US, as well as expose me to a new world of people, experiences and literature. It will also provide me with the tools to succeed in teaching,” she said. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=May2009&file=Local_News2009050632646.xml
