As part of the nationwide celebrations to mark Qatar’s National Day, Qatar Foundation has lined up an array of programmes to celebrate the occasion. The celebrations will focus on the revival of the country’s heritage and introduce it to the younger generation in a modern and interesting fashion. Among the new events to feature as part of the programme is the “Diving Forum,” which is scheduled for December 12 and 13. The forum will shed light on the pre-oil era when pearl diving was the lifeline of the region’s peoples. Also, Qatar Foundation will host a Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra concert at the Opera House in the Cultural Village on December at 7.30pm. Qatar Foundation will also host its annual public Arda performance, a traditional Arab folk dance performed by men, on December 18. The Al Shaqab Stable will contribute to this event by providing Arab horses to participate in the dance — a well-known and much loved part of Qatar’s heritage Waqif Arts Center, located at the popular Souq Waqif, is also hosting a workshop along with photo exhibition by Qatari artists which will run from December 13 to 25. Qatar marks its National Day on December 18 every year — when the late Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani, the founder of the modern State of Qatar, assumed power. QF’s celebration of National Day comes as part of its mission to support Qatar on its journey toward a knowledge economy. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/135412-qatar-foundation-plans-celebrations-in-run-up-to-national-day.html
