Qatar’s Foreign Minister heads to Moscow for talks on Russia-Ukraine crisis

The Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari confirmed what was reported in media about the visit of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, today, 13 March 2022, to Moscow, indicating that His Excellency will meet Monday, 14 March, with H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

Al Ansari said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that this visit comes at a critical stage due to the conditions the world is experiencing as a result of the escalation in Ukraine, explaining that it includes a discussion of the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, as well as a discussion of the ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve this crisis.

The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the State of Qatar is seeking to support the existing international efforts to provide the necessary conditions for a peaceful solution to the crisis, pointing out that the visit comes after phone calls between H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Ukraine, in addition to discussions held during His Excellency's visits to a number of European cities.

He pointed out that H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs will stress during his talks with the Russian side that a peaceful solution is the only way to end this crisis, and will stress the need for concerted efforts to resolve it urgently in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law.
