Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani participated yesterday in a round table discussion at the Arab House in Spain along with a group of officials, academics and representatives of companies interested in the Middle East, during his current visit to Spain.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs briefed the officials on the efforts of the Arab House in Spain to enhance communication between Spain and the Arab world.
He gave a briefing on his visit to Spain, stressing the importance of strengthening cultural, economic and political relations with the countries of the Arab world.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the depth of the Qatari-Spanish relations as well as Qatar’s regional and international efforts to establish international peace and security.
He also discussed Qatar’s efforts to protect human rights and preparations for hosting the 2022 World Cup.
Earlier on Thursday, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with HE the President of the Spanish Senate Pio Garcia-Escudero, during his official visit to Spain.
The meeting discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in different fields between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Spain, in addition to a number of topics of common concern.
The State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Spain have also agreed to establish an institutional framework for cooperation to achieve common objectives.
This came in a joint statement issued Thursday in Madrid on cooperation in the field of investment between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Spain, represented by H E Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
The statement stressed that Qatar and Spain agreed to establish an institutional framework for cooperation to achieve common goals.
Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Compania Espanola de Financiacion del Desarrollo, (the Spanish development finance company) will also submit another memorandum of understanding that will set guidelines and operational procedures to promote business and joint investment, the statement added.
QIA is owned by the State of Qatar and was established by the Amiri Decision No. 22 of 2005. The mission of QIA is to invest, manage and develop Qatar’s reserves to create long-term value for the state and future generations.
Established in 1988, the Spanish development finance company is owned by the Spanish public sector and it’s a financial development institution designed to facilitate the internationalisation of Spanish companies while contributing to the development of host countries.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also attended a debate session at the Spanish Elcano Royal Institute, during his official visit to Spain. During the session, a number of regional and international issues were discussed, as well as developments in the Middle East, especially the Gulf crisis.
H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also met on Thursday with President of the Congress of Deputies Ana Pastor, during his official visit to Spain. The meeting discussed bilateral relations and means of supporting and developing them, as well as matters of common concern.
