Qatar Dream League a “journalistic nightmare” for Times

Oh! What an embarrassment !!! UK’s top daily newspaper the – Times has had to publish a full climbdown following an internal investigation of the ‘Qatar Dream League’ story that appeared on the paper last week The paper described the episode as a “journalistic nightmare”. Last week, The Times ran a story saying that Qatar was to launch a”Dream Football League” in which the world’s top clubs would be given obscene amounts of money to play in a tournament that was said to be staged around the Gulf region.Read the full fake Story on Times Here Following the story appearing on Times, most other papers and online portals followed suit. However, Qatar Chronicle’s team conducted an in-depth investigation proving the news to be just a rumor. QC was one of the few news portals of global standing who didn’t buy the story. While we are in full support of the ‘Dream’ initiative, unlike the times, we understand the difference between reporting on the ground facts and building castles in the air. The newspaper’s Football Editor Tony Evans said the newspaper’s checks had not been stringent enough in the rush to publication. The Qatar Football Association (QFA) swiftly distanced itself from the story, saying they had no involvement and had heard nothing. Source : Qatar Chronicle
