Qatar announced Sunday that it will donate $11 million to Hamas to build new law courts in the Gaza Strip. Crown Prince of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, made the announcement during a meeting with Gaza premier Ismail Haniyeh in Doha. The two leaders discussed several issues, including efforts by Islamic countries to counter threats to the holy city of Jerusalem. Haniyeh praised the Emir of Qatar for pledging funds for Jerusalem and applauded Qatar's efforts to reconstruct the war-torn coastal territory. Haniyeh said he would welcome a special Arab League summit in Cairo to address Palestinian unity talks. Last year, Qatar pledged $400 million in reconstruction funds to the Gaza Strip, and construction material for the projects entered Gaza in late December, breaking a six-year ban enforced by Egypt and Israel.
