Qatar District Cooling Company (Qatar Cool) has plans to expand within West Bay itself in the first phase and will carve out further “districts” all over the country, a senior official told Gulf Times.
Mohannad Khader, vice-president (commercial) at Qatar Cool, said the reason why Qatar Cool was operating in the West Bay and The Pearl-Qatar areas of Doha only at the moment was because when the company began operations in 2003, it looked for places where there was a concentration of towers.
“District cooling is more feasible and makes more sense for the developer when there is a concentration of developments. At that time The Pearl-Qatar and West Bay were the two major projects,” he said.
About new Qatar Cool projects, the senior official said: “Currently, we have a plan to expand within West Bay itself. We are already busy designing that phase. At The Pearl-Qatar, we are now talking to (people heading) projects close to it like Metro stations, so we will try to expand there,” he said.
Apart from West Bay and The Pearl-Qatar, Qatar Cool was looking into other developments in the country such as Msheireb. “We are talking to Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee and they have projects all over Qatar. The good news is they are interested in district cooling,” he revealed.
