HE Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud welcomed the president and members of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) who met Thursday at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha, in preparation for the Assembly and related meetings of the IPU which will kick off on Saturday in Doha.

His Excellency said the Shura Council has taken all the necessary arrangements for the success of these events, to reach results that would favor the IPU's support and its path to strengthen democracy and sustainable development. HE the Shura Council Speaker said he is ready to cooperate with the committee and provide all the requirements to make the assembly and meetings successful. His Excellency said he wants to make it a milestone in the IPU history.

Al-Sharq daily said in its Friday's editorial that Doha had completed all the preparations for hosting the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), where 80 Parliament speakers, 40 deputy speakers and parliaments members from the world will gather in Doha in for 68 discussion panels over the period of a week to discuss a host international issues, including education, security, peace and the rule of law.

His Excellency expressed hope that the participants of the event have a chance to learn about the State of Qatar's heritage, the generosity of its people and to acquaint themselves with the renaissance witnessed by Qatar in all fields thanks to the wise policies of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The meeting was attended by HE IPU President and Head of the Executive Committee Gabriela Cuevas Barron and HE IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong. (QNA)
