Chinese National Day is celebrated on October 1st every year to observe the founding of People’s Republic of China. The forming of the Central People's Government took place in Tiananmen Square on October 1 in 1949. Qatar has a unique relations with the China since the diplomatic relations between both states has started in 1988. It’s time to take a look at the friendly relations between Qatar and China.
China and Qatar marked 30 years of diplomatic ties this year. During this new starting point, both the countries showed their interest to work together in order to continue the friendship and cooperation to promote bilateral relations along the path of political mutual trust, economic mutual benefit, and cultural mutual understanding and to create a splendid chapter for the next 30 years!
China and Qatar signed agreement on mutual visa exemption on 9th July 2018 in Beijing, China. According to the agreement, citizens of Qatar holding valid diplomatic, special, service, ordinary passports issued by Qatar may enter and stay without a visa in the territory of China for a period of less than thirty (30) days. Citizens of Qatar wishing to enter the territory of China for a period of more than thirty (30) days or to work, study, reside or make news reports, shall apply for an in advance visa in accordance with the Chinese national laws.
This Agreement will enter into force after the completion of necessary domestic legal procedures in both countries. For the moment, Citizens of Qatar wishing to enter the territory of China still need to apply for a visa in advance according to current regulations.
Qatar Airways currently operates direct flights to seven cities in China. In addition to that Qatar Tourism Authority has also set up representative offices in several Chinese cities along with an exclusive project to welcome Chinese people. In 2017, there were more than 45,000 Chinese tourists who visited Qatar marking a sharp increase of 26 percent. It is expected that more Chinese tourists will be visiting Qatar in the near future with recent developments in the bilateral ties between the two countries in the field of tourism
Qatar is China’s second largest source of LNG imports, while China is Qatar’s fourth largest trading partner and second largest source of imports. Chinese enterprises have participated in the construction of several strategic projects in Qatar such as the Hamad Port and 2022 World Cup main stadium while Qatari companies are entering the Chinese market.
Trade volume between the two countries has increased from less than $50m at the beginning of bilateral diplomatic relations in 1988 to $10.3bn in 2017, realising a dramatic 200-fold growth.
All the figures indicate positive and progressively advancing relations between Qatar and China.
