Qatar Charity and Vodafone will, during this Ramadan, jointly raise money for humanitarian aid and development through a series of fund-raising activities. Fund-raising auctions will take place every week on Vodafone’s website SouqIt.com, the best place to buy and sell online in Qatar and all proceeds raised from the auctions will benefit Qatar Charity’s good works. Everyone in Qatar will be able to bid on Vodafone star numbers - high value, exclusive numbers that are easy to remember - as well as the latest smartphones like the iPhone 4 32GB and BlackBerry Torch 9800 White. The first auction of the first star numbers 77960000 and 77340000, which will run for a week, starts today. Every week, two new star numbers will be featured as well as an iPhone 4 32GB and BlackBerry Torch 9800 White. No fee is required to join SouqIt at www.souqit.com, which is a pre-requisite to participate in Qatar Charity auctions. In addition, Vodafone and Qatar Charity have started an SMS campaign also to raise funds. By simply sending an SMS with the word “Qatar Charity” to the short code 97771, Vodafone customers can donate a fixed sum of QR5 that will be deducted off their balance. Customers who wish to donate more than QR5 can send an SMS to the short code as many times as they like. “Vodafone is extremely pleased to be partnering with Qatar Charity for a series of fund-raising activities during the holy month of Ramadan. We greatly admire the humanitarian aid and development Qatar Charity makes possible and to be able to work with them to raise money for their good works is a meaningful way for Vodafone to give back to the community,” Vodafone Qatar CSR head Luisa Gentile said. Qatar Charity director and chief executive officer Youssef bin Rashid al-Kuwari welcomed the collaboration with Vodafone saying: “This mutual collaboration will be manifested in a variety of activities and events, which will take place consecutively during Ramadan. Such activities will open new horizons for supporting the channels of donations in support of the Qatar Charity development projects. The public participation will enable different members of the community to contribute in different ways, each according to their ability.” Source: Gulf Times
