Qatar Charity (QC) has begun rehabilitating greenhouses in the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of Palestine. This comes as part of Qatar Charity’s continued efforts to support the agriculture sector and small farmers in Palestine.

This project benefits 85 small farmers who support poor and low-income families in Palestine where agriculture is an essential part of the national, cultural, economic and social fabric.

Over a 20,000-square-meter area has been rehabilitated to improve the income of the targeted families, enhance the resilience of farmers, support the agriculture sector, improve crop production, and provide fresh and healthy food for those working on the project, in addition to the residents of the Gaza Strip.

Mr. Ismail Abu Awad, a beneficiary farmer from the Gaza Strip, who has been working in agriculture for over 35 years, said:

“Farming is the only source of income for me and my family of seven, and our conditions worsened after a large part of our farm was destroyed due to erosion over time, noting that Qatar Charity has brought back the joy to us by rehabilitating the greenhouse."

Mr. Kamel Al-Rai, another beneficiary farmer, expressed his pleasure at returning to work in his farm, which was damaged, indicating that it is the only source of livelihood for him and his family of seven, and has been rehabilitated with the support from the benevolent people in Qatar.

Engineer Muhammad Abu Haloub, Director of Qatar Charity's office in the Gaza Strip, the goal of this project is to rehabilitate an area of no less than 1,000 square meters for a poor family, in addition to providing a permanent source of income and creating job opportunities for productive families. He emphasized the importance of supporting the agriculture sector in Palestine, and improving the quality of crops to achieve food security.

It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity has rehabilitated more than 90 greenhouses, with an area of more than 150,000 square meters, during the past five years, at a total cost of more than one million Qatari riyals, benefiting more than 550 people. Earlier, Qatar Charity and the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture signed a joint framework (2021-2023) to improve food security in Palestine.
