Qatar Charity (QC) and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), an independent, humanitarian non-governmental organisation, have recently signed an agreement worth $10m to rebuild Gaza, which was destroyed during the recent warfare.
The two parties have also signed a framework agreement as partners in humanitarian work. The rebuilding project is estimated to take two years. In the first phase, NRC and QC aim to build near 300 private houses which will provide shelter for about 2,200 persons.
Elisabeth Rasmusson, NRC Secretary General, said $10m was the largest single contribution ever to a NRC programme. It is also the first time NRC enters a broad strategic agreement with an Islamic organisation, she added.
Abdullah Hussein Al Nameh, QC Director General said: “It is important to us to work internationally and cooperate with foreign NGOs. This agreement may give our organisation increased credibility.”
