Qatar has asserted that a lasting, comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved unless the UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative were implemented, based on the “Land for peace” principle, a matter which was referred to at the recent Arab summit held in Doha. The appeal came as Qatar’s Plenipotentiary Minister and Acting Representative to the United Nations Salim Mubarak al -Shafi, spoke during a debate of the UN Security Council on the Middle East on Monday night. Qatar called upon the Israeli government to stop its extremist policy and accept the genuine Arab intention to end the Middle East crisis. “The State of Qatar believes that the solution to the Palestinian cause only comes through the peaceful co-existence of the two states, Palestine and Israel”, al-Shafi said. He reiterated Qatar’s refusal of the Israeli justifications to expand its settlements, which it has termed as a natural growth. - QNA http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=305918&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
