Qatar Cabinet holds weekly meeting; expresses satisfaction on arrival of COVID-19 vaccine

H.E. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani chaired Wednesday the cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan.

Following the meeting, H.E. Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi said the following statement:

COVID-19 vaccine and Doha 2030 Asian Games

At the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet expressed deep satisfaction with the arrival of the first shipment of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, in implementation of the directives of H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and the start of the vaccination campaign beginning today through select health centers in the country in the largest vaccination campaign in the State of Qatar.

The Cabinet welcomed the State of Qatar's hosting of the 21st Asian Games in 2030 after Doha won the rights to hosting the session, further expressing its appreciation for the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Doha 2030 Asian Games Bid Committee's efforts for securing this major sporting event.

The Cabinet listened to the explanation provided by H.E. Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and the council affirmed the continuation of work with regard to the precautionary measures that have been taken in order to combat this pandemic.

Qatar's population

The Cabinet also listened to a presentation made by H.E. President of the Planning and Statistics Authority on some issues of population and demographics in the State of Qatar, in which he dealt with the historical development of the population of Qatar, the natural factors determining the growth of citizens, the size of the target population, and the expectations of the population until 2024. He also referred to the national references that dealt with the population issue, which are the Qatar National Vision 2030, the Population Policy 2017-2022, and the National Development Strategy 2018-2022.

H.E. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior directed the formation of specialized work teams from the relevant authorities to study the challenges facing population issues and demographics and submit the results of their study to the Cabinet, including proposed solutions and recommendations in this regard.

After that, the Council considered the topics on the agenda as follows:

National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking

First - Approval of the Cabinet draft decision amending some provisions of Resolution No. 15 of 2017 regarding the establishment of a National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking.

This committee established at the Ministry Of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs aims to play the role of the national coordinator to monitor, prevent and combat human trafficking by coordinating with the concerned authorities in this regard, and among its competencies is the development of the national plan to combat human trafficking, and the preparation of programs and mechanisms to implement it in coordination with the concerned authorities.

Second - Approval of:

United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs

1 - A draft agreement between the government of the State of Qatar and the United Nations regarding the establishment of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the State of Qatar.

The preparation of this draft agreement comes within the framework of the State's keenness to enhance international cooperation with the United Nations.

State of Qatar and the Kyrgyz Republic

2 - A draft agreement for joint cooperation in the fields of health and medical sciences between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Kyrgyz Republic.

World Health Organization

Third - the Cabinet reviewed the results of the 73rd session of the World Health Organization and the 147th session of the WHO Executive Council and took the appropriate decision in that regard.
