Increasing popularity of remotely piloted air systems (RPAS) or drones and its unauthorised flying in Qatar airspace has led to a cause of worry for the Civil Aviation Authority.

In a public announcement today, the authority warned drone operators that usage of drones is prohibited without prior authorisation. The notice read as "According to Law No 15 of 2002 on Civil Aviation, RPAs are prohibited to operate in the territorial airspace of the State of Qatar without a prior authorisation issued by the Civil Aviation Authority."

The usage of drones without proper authorisation can pose serious threats and hazards to the Air Safety and Air Navigation in the country.

The aviation authority called upon RPA operators to avoid violations and comply with the law.

In August 2016, the aviation authority had published draft regulations in line with the advanced aviation regulations in the European Aviation System. At the same time it had announced that new technical regulations on Air Traffic Management and Services, Drones and Aerodromes will be published to ensure safe aviation system in the country. (Source)
