Here’s what’s happened since last week’s updates: Demands for UAE to be punished for violence against Qatari players at Asian Cup 2019
Qatar's remarkable Asian Cup victory may have been a sporting triumph which sparked wild celebrations in Doha but it is almost certain to come at a political price, analysts say, reported www.afp.com.
The historic win is expected to lead to further animosity between Qatar and the Saudi-led bloc of rival nations.
"Any sense of embitterment in Abu Dhabi at the way the tournament they hosted turned out may translate into an escalation of rhetoric against Qatar," Kristian Coates Ulrichsen, a research fellow at Rice University was quoted as saying by AFP.
He added: "The response to Qatar's run in the Asian Cup has, if anything, deepened the split within the Gulf.
Qatar's first ever Asian Cup win is an astonishing story on numerous levels. However, the negative relationship between Qatar and the UAE has resulted many unpleasant stories. For example, during the UAE vs. Qatar game, spectators booed as the Qatari national anthem played and fans pelted the Qatari players with water bottles, shoes and slippers following Qatar’s second, third and fourth goal.
Is this acceptable !!?

Additionally, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council bought the remaining 18,000 tickets and distributed them free of charge to the country’s “loyal” fans. The council did not provide tickets to Omanis and citizens of international countries for fear they would cheer for Qatar.
It is also mportant to note here that a British football fan has been arrested and detained in the United Arab Emirates for wearing Qatar football team T-shirt during a match at the AFC Asian Cup 2019.
FIFA is studying a proposal for 48-team editions of the World Cup from 2022. "We'll decide in March," Gianni Infantino, president of the world soccer body said on French TV show Telefoot. When the next edition is held in Qatar, it will be the first to be held in the Arab world and the first in a majority-Muslim country. The Qatar FIFA 2022 World Cup will be held over November-December instead of the European summer months of June and July.
