Qatar Airways will increase the frequency of flights on its Cairo route to three times a day, starting from July 1.
The Doha-based carrier currently operates 16 services a week to the Egyptian capital, with this increasing to 21 from the start of next month.
The airline said it will operate a mix of narrow-body Airbus A320s, wide-body A330s and Boeing 777 aircraft on the route.
“For the second time this year, we’ve increased capacity between Cairo and Doha due to over whelming demand demonstrating the resurgence in tourism, as well as business travel to and from the Egyptian capital,” said CEO Akbar Al Baker.
According to figures from the Egyptian government, the number of tourists to Egypt increased by 17.1 percent in 2012 to 11.5m. However, tourism has not recovered from the 2011 revolution that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak, with the latest figures still way off 2010’s 14.7m.
Qatar Airways also serves Alexandria and Luxor as part of its flight network into the country.
So far this year, the carrier has launched new routes to Gassim in Saudi Arabia, Najaf and Basra in Iraq, Phnom Penh in Camboda, Salalah in Oman, and Chicago.
Worldwide the airline serves 128 destinations via its fleet of 125 aircraft.
