Qatar Airways, rather surprisingly, has been voted the most economical airline by travellers based in the UAE. It is surprising because UAE travellers would have been expected to vote for local players Emirates, Etihad or low-cost carrier Air Arabia.
A survey was carried out by Maktoob.com, a well-known Arab portal, which covered 2,457 UAE and Saudi residents. In Saudi Arabia, Emirates and Etihad led the way in terms of value for money. In terms of overall customer satisfaction as well as being the most commonly-flown airline among those surveyed in the UAE, Emirates soared above the competition.
Emirates, however, was also rated the most expensive airline among those surveyed in the UAE, not really a surprise given the newness of its aircraft and its standards of service. The Dubai-based carrier earned a rating of 8.5 in the UAE and 8.3 in Saudi Arabia on a scale of 10 in overall customer satisfaction levels. Qatar Airways and Etihad both scored 7.8, not far behind Emirates on the ratings scale.
Qatar Airways is often charged with being the most expensive airline to fly with from Qatar. However, passengers in the UAE clearly feel otherwise, believing Emirates charges the most.
Emirates scored in the UAE over its rivals in the categories of luxury, reliability and innovation. The airline recently introduced the Airbus A380 to the region, though regional rivals Qatar Airways and Etihad have ordered several of the jets as well.
