QATAR 2022 SPONSORS TWO FOOTBALL-THEMED FILM PREMIERES AT DOHA TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL (26 October, 2010) Doha, Qatar – Qatar 2022, in conjunction with the Doha Film Institute, is sponsoring the premieres of two football-themed films at the second Doha Tribeca Film Festival. Africa United and The Two Escobars will screen on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., respectively. Both screenings will be held at the spectacular outdoor screening venue on the private beach of the Four Seasons Hotel Doha. Africa United tells the story of Dudu, a serious football fan from a Rwandan slum. He and his sports-mad buddies decide to walk 5,000 kilometers to South Africa to experience the World Cup. They cross borders, form new friendships, and overcome obstacles on their journey. The Two Escobars illuminates the parallel lives of two unrelated men, Andrés Escobar and Pablo Escobar, who shared a fanatical love of football. Andrés grew up to become one of Colombia’s most beloved players, while Pablo became the most notorious drug baron of all time. While adeptly investigating the secret marriage of crime and sports, Michael Zimbalist and Jeff Zimbalist reveal the surprising connections between the murders of Andrés and Pablo. Qatar 2022 Communications Director Nasser Al Khater said, “These two great films convey with impressive skill the power and the passion of the sport of football. We are delighted to work with DFI and the Doha Tribeca Film Festival to shine a spotlight on these incredible works. And we look forward to the same level of enthusiasm of people of all ages and nationalities in Doha for football and for bringing the World Cup to Qatar in 2022.” Amanda Palmer, Executive Director, Doha Film Institute, said: "We are immensely proud to bring these two extraordinary films to the Doha Tribeca Film Festival. They artfully reflect the mission of this festival, which is to connect with the community through people's passions, which made this initiative with Qatar 2022 an ideal opportunity. As people gather together to celebrate the second Doha Tribeca Film Festival, they are showing the same commitment and energy that is propelling the effort to bring the World Cup here to Qatar." DTFF’s parent organization, the Doha Film Institute, has collaborated with Qatar 2022 numerous times. The two teamed up last summer to present the Fan Zone at Souq Waqif, where thousands of Doha residents gathered to watch the World Cup matches. They also jointly sponsored film workshops that yielded seven 1-minute films about football, which were later screened at the Fan Zone at Souq Waqif.
