Qatar Airways will expand its operations in Switzerland by adding an extra flight on the Doha-Zurich route from October 25, it was announced yesterday. The extra service will offer connections via Doha to a host of cities across the airline’s global network covering Europe, Middle East, Africa, Far East, South East Asia and North America. The addition of a Saturday departure out of Zurich promises to be a popular flight among Swiss holidaymakers heading to leisure destinations such as the Maldives and Seychelles as well as Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Ho-Chi-Minh City in Vietnam. Although the route is strongly frequented by business travellers, Zurich is also famous among leisure travellers visiting the beautifully located city close to the Swiss Alps and Lake Zurich. Famous for being a sophisticated shopping destination due to its world-renowned Swiss jewellery and watch industry, Zurich and Switzerland in general are attracting more and more visitors every year. The Doha-Zurich route, launched in 2004, is operated with a state-of-the-art Airbus A330, in a two-class cabin configuration and features 24 seats in Business Class and 236 Economy Class seats. Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker said that the airline’s Swiss expansion was part of its growth plans to step up frequencies across an expanding global network. “We are pleased to be able to reinforce our commitment to this important European market through adding capacity and offering our passengers more choice and flexibility on the Zurich route,” he said. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=311952&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
