Qatar Airways has hailed its successful participation at Qatar’s fifth annual spring engineering recruitment fair, Careers for Engineers 2012, organised by Texas A&M University in Doha. The day-long event, held at the university campus in Education City, was aimed at soon-to-graduate engineering students to interact with future employers from organisations across Qatar and find out about key positions and scholarship opportunities. The American university currently has over 400 students enrolled in engineering undergraduate programmes. Akbar al-Baker, chief executive officer, Qatar Airways, said that the airline’s participation in the career fair was part of its continued recruitment drive to hire employees across the company, in line with its expansion programme. “Qatar Airways has grown tremendously in the last 15 years with a strong workforce of over 20,000 employees and we are continuing our ambitious expansion strategy with more opportunities for new recruits,” he said. “The career fair proved to be an excellent opportunity for students to meet with company representatives and make a positive step towards a career with one of the world’s fastest growing airlines.” Kholode al-Obaidli, airline’s senior manager for National Scholarship Programme, said that the response was exceptional during the career fair from students who were interested in job opportunities, internship and scholarship programmes with the airline. “We participated in this event to educate and create awareness about the numerous opportunities that the aviation industry offers to engineering graduates,” she said. “The airline’s National Scholarship Programme was launched last year and has been well-received by the student community in Qatar. We hope to participate in many more of such events and look forward to identifying and nurturing Qatari talent.” Qatar Airways’ National Scholarship Programme (QRNSP) is designed to financially support youth in their post-secondary educational pursuits, with an optional work experience component that provides internships throughout their programmes, as well as full-time employment with the airline upon graduation. This year, QRNSP is offering 35 scholarships for undergraduate university studies and 25 scholarships for the aircraft maintenance engineering scholarship programme. This weekend, Qatar Airways takes part as a sponsor of the fifth annual career fair in London organised by the Qatar embassy in the UK. The event is aimed at Qatari undergraduates studying in the UK.
