Prohibited areas & safety rules for jet ski riders disclosed by Coast and Border Security official

The Al Sharq newspaper reported on 1 May 2023 guidelines for jet ski riders and areas that are prohibited, as mentioned by Major Ahmed Abdullah Al Sulaiti, Head of the Eastern Region Department of the External Regions Department of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security at the Ministry of Interior.

He had mentioned the prohibited areas for jet skis, safety rules and common causes of accidents in a talk with Qatar Radio.

The areas prohibited for jet skis were mentioned as the following:

  • Swimming areas
  • Navigational waterways
  • Doha Corniche area
  • Diplomatic area
  • Waterfronts of hotels and private property

The safety rules for sea goers and jet ski users are as follows:

  • Wearing a life jacket for all those on the jet ski
  • Ensure that the jet ski key is attached to the wrist
  • Jet skis are not to be ridden by anyone under the legal age without the presence of a guardian or an adult
  • Do not ride jet skis in times of bad weather and high waves
  • Ensure that sufficient fuel is available
  • Adhere to the instructions issued by the Coast and Border Security Department

Common causes for jet ski accidents were also mentioned, which should be avoided:

  • High speeds
  • Indifference while riding a jet ski
  • Carrying out showy movements without meaning or in unallocated places
  • Riding jet skis at night
  • The descent of the sea during high waves, in case of fog and strong winds
  • Focus on not moving in large groups, close to each other, and at high speeds
