The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the closure of Al Khaleej Street from Qasr Diyafa Roundabout (near Olympic Village) up to Jaidah Flyover, passing through the underpass at Mannai Roundabout. The street will be completely closed for maintenance works for five days beginning today. The works include complete replacement of the asphalt layer on the street. Recently, Majlis Taawn Street was partially closed between Oryx Roundabout and Barzan Signal, where maintenance work is in progress. Both the streets are to be renovated by June 27, 2009, the Road Operation and Maintenance (O&M) department at Ashghal said. The O&M department is the authority responsible for the maintenance of all major streets and roads in the state. The department has recently started maintenance works on a number of streets in Industrial Area in addition to the link road from Wukhair to Mesaimeer, Women’s College Street and Ras Laffan Roundabout. Ahmed Rashid Al Kubaisi, head of the road maintenance section, clarified that the emergency maintenance works carried out by the O&M department were aimed at ensuring traffic safety. As part of it many major streets and roads have been already renovated, including Mecca Street and Maha Street at Luqta, Bustan Street and Garrafa Street. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=June2009&file=Local_News2009062324934.xml
