Doha could have more of automated multi-level car parking facilities in the coming years if the experiment at Mowasalat compound turns out to be successful, said a senior official of Parkmatic, the US company which supplied equipment to its local distributors Venture Gulf. Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the automated parking facility yesterday Parkmatic Mena marketing director Rodney Skeet said the one that had been set up in Mowasalat was the first full-fledged facility of its kind in the GCC region. Even though the company had started the work of a few such projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, its local operators there had decided to halt the work in view of the economic slowdown in the UAE, said Skeet. Skeet felt Doha would certainly have more of the same or advanced facilities because of the drastic rise in the number of new vehicles in the country.
