A new service is being added to Masarak’s iTraffic App to provide the users accurate data about availability of parking in the places where they are heading to, said Adnan Abu Dayya, Chief Executive Officer of QMIC.

Initially parking lots at four places including City Center and Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) will be connected to the app, he added.

Masarak is a mobile application that was developed locally by QMIC in partnership with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP).

He was giving a presentation at a two-day even “Smart Parking Qatar” which began here yesterday. The event is supported by Project Qatar in collaboration with Ashghal and the Ministry of Transport and Communications and many other partners

Yousef Al Emadi, Head of Road Maintenance Department, at Public Works Authority (Ashghal), while addressing the inaugural session underlined the need for smart parking facilities to address the shortage of parking space in Qatar and reduce traffic congestions.

Smart parking is a solution to provide more parking space for vehicles utilizing less space.

“We believe smart parking is a significant plan and major traffic management tool. It should be implemented as part of the national transport event management strategy,”

“Smart parking can reduce traffic congestion and enhance road safety. It could be implemented through public-private partnership based on smart technology. It can improve the quality of life and boost economy and development,” he added.

The conference aims to utilize new technologies and infrastructure designs in parking facilities to advance urban planning strategies in Qatar. Participants floated innovated ideas to solve the parking crises in densely populated cities. They include providing information about parking availability to the motorists, building automated parking facilities and banning shopping malls in crowded areas to reduced traffic jams. (Source)
