Ooredoo announced Wednesday it has signed a new four-year agreement to continue provision of onboard Wi-Fi to Qatar Airways.

The agreement was signed at a special ceremony during QITCOM 2019 by H.E. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker and H.E. Chairman of Ooredoo's Board of Directors Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani.

The new agreement will see Ooredoo continue as Exclusive Onboard Wi-Fi Sponsor for all Qatar Airways flights equipped with onboard Wi-Fi. Enabling Ooredoo's network onboard aircraft will allow Qatar Airways to offer travellers the latest generation of connections quickly and cost-effectively, in a flexible and scalable manner.

The continued partnership will mean passengers can access unmatched connectivity in the air; they will be able to use portable electronic devices to check emails, browse the internet and send messages as soon as the service is enabled onboard each flight.

Passengers will simply need to look for the Ooredoo logo on their next Qatar Airways flight - it can be seen on the log-in screen and on the information in seat pockets, as well as on adverts on-screen - to see if onboard Wi-Fi is available on their flight, then wait for the crew to announce onboard Wi-Fi has been enabled and get online.

Speaking of the renewed agreement, H.E. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said: "Qatar Airways is a five star airline with a hard-won reputation for service quality, so it is crucial for our passengers that we use cutting-edge technology to provide them with a Wi-Fi product on board that meets their high expectations. I am pleased to have renewed our agreement with Ooredoo which will enhance the travel experience and deliver operational excellence."

For his part, H.E. Chairman of Ooredoos Board of Directors Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani said: "We're delighted to have renewed our agreement with Qatar Airways, and proud to be continuing to deliver our state-of-the-art Wi-Fi service to passengers so they can stay connected while travelling. Were committed to enhancing peoples digital lives, as well as to offering the very latest in technology and telecoms developments. Ensuring passengers can access the same quality connectivity in the air as they do on the ground is one of the many ways in which we deliver on these commitments and enable everyone to enjoy the internet wherever they are."
