Ooredoo is set to launch a major upgrade of its 4G services from October 1, 2013. The upgrade will help Ooredoo bring almost the entire country under the ultrafast network services. With the new upgrade, both Shahry and Hala customers using Hala weekly packs or Shahry mobile data packs can access the service using the 4G key. Though Ooredoo launched the 4G broadband network system this April, the key coverage areas were limited and the company was in the process of upgrading the services. “Now we are all set for a major upgrade from next month. More technical information will be available to the customers on that date”, Ooredoo Chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani said on the sidelines of the grand opening ceremony of Ooredoo’s second headquarters (HQ2), a plush facility dedicated to Ooredoo’s customers in Qatar, at Airport Road yesterday. The upgrade also means that, for the first time, customers using compatible Smartphones can enjoy 4G services, as well as customers using MyFi and Ooredoo USB modems. Since its launch in April 2013, Ooredoo’s 4G services has seen major network upgrades across Qatar, increasing the number of base sites to more than double network coverage in order to provide the best customer experience, he noted. Opening the new headquarters and Ooredoo’s new flagship shop, Sheikh Abdullah said the HQ2 will work as the nerve centre for all customer-facing operations in Qatar, bringing together customer services, sales, marketing and support staff together under one roof in a futuristic environment designed to streamline processes. Ooredoo’s flagship shop is unique in many ways. It features paperless pricing, an SMS queuing system, an interactive big screen television and several play-pods where customers can witness Ooredoo’s fibre broadband speeds and try out the latest tablets and smartphones. Joined by special guest Nasser Al Attiyah, Olympic medallist and rally driver, the delegation of special guests were led on the first organised tour of both facilities. “The whole experience for customers entering the store is seamless and paper-free. They are provided with a customer number via SMS, and can move around the store to special sections covering every aspect of Ooredoo services. Interactive screens enable customers to check individual specifications of different products, as well as up-to-the-minute details of new offers and promotions. The shop has special demonstration areas for both 4G and fibre technologies enabling customers to experience the incredible speeds and versatility of Ooredoo’s top-of-the-range fixed and wireless Internet solutions. Customers can also see the flawless transition that is now possible between 4G mobile Internet and hotspots fuelled by Ooredoo fibre. Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo Qatar said: “This opening is a big day for Ooredoo, and our new prime location near the airport means we are here for every customer whenever they arrive home in Qatar. Ooredoo is racing forward, bringing a new type of shopping experience for our customers, and offering technologies and products that are entirely innovative.” Ooredoo’s West Bay headquarters (HQ1) will continue to be used by the company in parallel with its new HQ2. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/255099-ooredoo%E2%80%99s-4g-services-set-for-major-upgrade.html
