One person died and another suffered critical injuries after a car they were travelling in met with a serious accident ahead of Duhail petrol station on Al Shamal Road yesterday. The ill-fated car was moving at high speed when the driver lost control and the vehicle hit iron railings on the side of the road. The impact was so strong that the car skidded to the other side of the road and rolled over, eventually falling into a five to seven metres deep pit by the roadside. There was water, sand and pieces of marble in the pit, which was close to a construction site. The driver and his companion were thrown out of the car due to the impact of the collision with the railing.
